Judith Ann Mazza Naples,, FL Judith Ann Mazza passed away on January 13, 2014. Born on July 25, 1940 in Boston, MA to Howard E. (Ed) and Genevieve (Gen) Gatley, the second oldest of four children. At age 18, Judy entered the Order of the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent, where she became a nun. Judy earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Regis College in Boston. She began her teaching career teaching American History to elementary aged school children. In 1979, she left the Order of the Sisters of St. Joseph and went to work at Boston City Hospital, where she trained as and became an LPN. In 1981, she moved to Naples, FL and went to work at Naples Community Hospital as an LPN. Judy worked for NCH for 25 years. In 1985, Judy was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy and lost sight in one eye. She became the Patients' Advocate at NCH and held that position for five years. In 1990, Judy enrolled at Barry University in Miami, where she earned her Master's Degree in Social Work while still working for NCH. Upon her graduation from Barry, Judy passed the exam to become a licensed clinical social worker and held this position at NCH until her retirement in January, 2006. Judy is survived by her loving husband, Frank R. Mazza; her sister, Joan Harlow; and her brothers, David and Edmund Gatley. Her memorial service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples Park on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Judy's name to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
