Helen Laverne Sickels, 87, entered into the Lord's Care on Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Masonic Home of NJ after spending her last days surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Sickels was born to Norris and Mary Young on March 22, 1927 in Louisville, Ky. She lived most of her long, fulfilling life in Ewing, after meeting her husband of 65 years, Fred Sickels, Jr. while he was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. She was a member of the Pennington United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed bowling, reading and traveling with her husband. Her biggest joy came from supporting and participating in the activities of her children and grandchildren. When her grandchildren were young, there was no game, tea party production , or sporting event where she wasn't a key participant. She is surely missed. Mrs. Sickels is survived by her husband; Frederick A. Sickels, Jr.; two daughters and their husbands; Barbara and Dr. John Steinbaugh; of Raleigh, NC and Beverly and George Avery; of Metuchen; two sons and their wives; Frederick "Fritz" A. Sickels, III and Debra; of Pennington and Dr. Barry D. Sickels and Tricia; of West Chester, PA; her beloved grandchildren; Alex Steinbaugh; Sarah Sickels and Chelsea Sickels; and a brother; Raymond Tharp; of Louisville, KY. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Betty and Larry Kendall; of Ewing, who were always there for her. Her final care was provided by the Blackwell Memorial Home of Pennington. In accordance with Mrs. Sickel's wishes there will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Her life is being planned for family and friends. The family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be offered to the Masonic Charity Foundation for Acacia Hospice Service, 902 Jacksonville Road, Burlilngton, NJ 08026 -3896.
