Glenn C. "Kitch" Kitchin
MONMOUTH - Glenn C. "Kitch" Kitchin, 92, Monmouth, died at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. He was born March 2, 1918, in Brunswick, Neb., the son of Ed and Mable (Brownlee) Kitchin. He was raised and educated in Little York and Monmouth. Glenn served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-17 tail gunner on the lead ship "Radar Queen." He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. Glenn married Norma Sowers in Nashua, Iowa, on Aug. 4, 1947, and she survives. Glenn worked for Charlie Walters at Walters Grocery Store in Monmouth and later ran the grocery store in Oquawka. Glenn later owned and operated Kitch's Locker in Monmouth from 1947 until 1998. He loved to fly and play golf. His life interests were his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; one son, Gary (Jeri) Kitchin of Monmouth, and grandchildren Corey (Tammi) Kitchin of Monmouth and April Kitchin of Clarksville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Eric Kitchin. Cremation was accorded. No funeral is planned. A private family committal and burial in Warren County Memorial Park will be later.
