William Andrew "Andy" Gibson
Athens - William Andrew "Andy" Gibson, 51, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008. A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Andy had lived most of his life here in Athens. He was the son of George Milton Gibson and the late Patricia Green Gibson. Andy attended Clarke Central High School where he played football and baseball, and during this time also served as a camp counselor at the Athens Y Camp. He was a graduate of Presbyterian College and a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Andy worked along side his father in George Gibson's Men's Wear for many years, and after his father's retirement, he continued to operate the business which has become one of Athens leading clothing stores. He was a member of the Friday Morning Breakfast Club at the Mayflower Restaurant, The Athens Touchdown Club, The Athens Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors in addition to his father are a son, Preston Gibson of Franklin, Tennessee; sisters, Meg Vuillet of Paris, France and Ellen Gibson of Atlanta; and brother, Tom Gibson of Jacksonville, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father David McGinnis officiating. Interment services will be private at a later date. The family will receive friends 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., Sunday, December 7, at Bernstein. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the St. Mary's Hospice House, P.
