In memory of
Wanda Juanita Agenbroad March 9, 1934 - January 10, 2015 Wanda Juanita Agenbroad, age 80, a resident of Hot Springs, SD, died in Christ January 10, 2015, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD. Wanda was born on March 9, 1934, to Lester and May Sommers, the oldest of three daughters. Wanda was brought up in a Christian home and maintained a lifelong walk with Christ. Wanda was a dedicated wife and mother and a full participant in life. She was a support to her husband Larry through their high school courtship, his Korean wartime service and, after their marriage, through Larry and her college education. Wanda modeled education as a personal priority by earning her Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona and her Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix. Wanda taught 4th grade at Kinsey elementary school in Flagstaff, AZ, for ten years. Wanda was a co-adventurer with Larry on his many paleontological, archaeological and geologic research projects from the deserts of the South Western United States to the Steppes of Siberia. Wanda had a positive can-do outlook on life and expected to be invited along no matter the adventure. Wanda ran the Colorado River on three different occasions, supported Larry in the first historically recorded navigation of the Breauenu River in Idaho and spent many seasons in the field as a cook and fellow digger during the initial years of field research on the Hudson Meng and Hot Springs Mammoth Site excavations. Wanda was more often than not the "chief cook and bottle washer" on these endeavors. Wanda will be missed by her family and friends. Wanda is survived by her sons, Brett (Maria) Agenbroad of Seattle, WA; Finn (Heidi) Agenbroad of Centennial, CO; two grandchildren, Andy and Katy Agenbroad. Wanda is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Larry Agenbroad. Wanda will be commended to the Lord in a memorial service to be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the United Churches in Hot Springs with Pastor Clint Walker Officiating. A memorial has been established in Wanda's name for the Wounded Warrior Organization. Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Written condolences can be made at www.chamberlainmccolleys.com .
