Wagdi Zaki Hanna
Wagdi Zaki Hanna passed away on January 7, 2019 at the age of 78. He is survived by his loving wife, Awatif, daughter, Lily, son, Michael, grandson, Gabriel and three brothers: Hanna, Hany and Monir. Wagdi was born on March 2, 1940 in Ismailia, Egypt, where he served in the Egyptian Army. Upon emigrating to the United States in 1968, Wagdi initially worked as a food chemist before launching a tremendously successful, international jewelry wholesaling company supplying countless department stores throughout America named Tata Import Company, after his beloved wife and her affinity for gold & diamonds. Later he became a member of LATEC, the Louisiana Trustee Education Council. He was an extensive world traveler for both business and pleasure, had an undying passion for cheese and was known the make the best fig jam. Wagdi loved the ocean and beach life. He maintained a robust herb garden and a number of fruit trees, primarily orange, persimmon and fig. He was destined to see things grow. With endless wit and charm, always kind and positive, he was a devout and dedicated member of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, located at 5333 St. Bernard Ave in New Orleans, at 1:00 pm. Visitation will follow the mass at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, located at 4900 Airline Dr. in Metairie, from 2:30 pm until 4:00 pm. Interment to follow visitation in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
