Velma Black Frandsen
1919 ~ 2011 Velma Black Frandsen, 92, passed away November 23, 2011. She was born May 2, 1919, in Ferron, Utah, the fifth child of William Levi and Clyda Jerusha Barton Black. Velma married Duane Frandsen in the Logan LDS Temple on August 8, 1941. They were the parents of 4 children. Velma earned her teaching certificate from Brigham Young University, then returned to Emery County to teach elementary school. It was then she met her future husband, Duane Frandsen. After Duane's World War II government service, they made their home in Price, Utah where their children were born and raised. Velma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and liked giving and receiving hugs. She enjoyed her family and friends, eating out and watching BYU basketball. Velma was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She supported her husband in his many callings, as well as her children in their church callings and activities. She served in the Primary, Mutual and Relief Society auxiliaries. A highlight in her service came when she was called as the advisor to the Lambda Delta Sigma Sorority at College of Eastern Utah and later as an advisor on the national board. After she and Duane served a mission to the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple Visitors Center, they made their home in Provo. Velma is survived by her children, Wayne (Penny) of Woodland Hills; Jerry of Moab; Camille (Michael) Jensen of Price and Clyda (Michael) Harrison of Orem; a daughter-in-law, Pat Frandsen of Price; 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Eldona Ralphs; and 4 brothers, Glenn, Ronald, Therald, and Merrill. The family is grateful to Andrea Morris, Belinda Han and their staff at Our House of Orem and Brigitte Hansen and others from Access Home Care and Hospice for their kindness and care they gave to our mother. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the Riverwoods Ward Chapel, 4775 North 300 West, Provo. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Monday evening from 6 until 8 and at the chapel Monday one hour prior to services. Interment will be at the Price City Cemetery, Price, Utah at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the LDS missionary fund or the USU-Eastern Duane A and Velma B Frandsen Scholarship Fund.
