In memory of
Susan Loeffler "Sunbonnet Sue" Jeffries
Our dear Susan Loeffler Jeffries passed away peacefully on December 14, 2017, and was met with the warm loving arms of loved ones awaiting her in heaven. Sue, or "MeMaw" to her six grandchildren, was born in 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and departed from this life at her home in Baton Rouge, surrounded by her family and friends. She was a retired educator with over 40 years' of classroom experience in Wilmington, Delaware, and Ascension Parish and East Feliciana Parish in Louisiana. "Sunbonnet Sue" was an avid quilter, world traveler-she was proud to have visited all 50 states--and a former officer of the ADK teacher's sorority in Ascension Parish. She loved spending time with family and friends and caring for others. Sue was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and later, after moving to Louisiana, earned a master's degree in education at LSU. She was a devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the LSU Tigers. Her passion was her children, her students, quilting, gardening, and her wonderful friends, many of whom were in her teaching sorority with her. Sue exuded genuine kindness and optimism, even while battling serious illness. Her love for life and family were and inspiration to all who knew her. May our beloved "MeMaw" find peace, comfort and happiness until she is reunited with her loving family and friends who will miss her every day until then. May we all cherish the many fond memories of Sue and forever engrave them in our hearts and minds. Sue's life stands as an example of a person well-loved and a life well-lived. We, her loved ones, are so proud of her and glad to have had her in our lives. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and Frank Loeffler. Survivors include her children and their spouses: Amy and Tommy Turner, Cindy and Stephan Kinsella, and John and Tricia DeLaney. Siblings: Judith Loeffler, Nancy Sherlock, and David Loeffler. Grandchildren: Laura Spurgeon, Emily Turner, Thomas Turner, Julia DeLaney, Margaret DeLaney, and Ethan Kinsella in addition to countless close friends, former students, and church parishioners. The family would like to thank the care provided by HomeInstead Caregivers, Amedysis Homehealth and Hospice, Dr. William Russell and Dr. Vincent Cataldo and their staffs as well as numerous close friends who have cared for her. A ceremony celebrating the life of Susan Loeffler Jeffries will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 30 at First United Methodist Church of Gonzales, 224 West Constitution Street, Gonzales, Louisiana 70707. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
