SIDNEY ADKINSON
Dec. 24, 1926 - Jan. 31, 2019 OKLAHOMA CITY Sidney Martin Adkinson, age 92, went home to be with Jesus Jan. 31, 2019, in Oklahoma City. He is survived by his son, Marty Adkinson, Oklahoma City; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark & Judy Adkinson, of Oklahoma City; grandsons, Nicholas & wife Julie and Joshua & wife Sarah; his granddaughters, Rebecca and Rachel & husband John; two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella Poole Adkinson. Sid was born Dec. 24, 1926, in Memphis, TN to parents Jesse Martin and Mertie Ivy Adkinson. He started working for Illinois Central Railroad as a fireman at the age of 16. Upon turning 18 in Dec. 1944, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Cowpens in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war, he graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater with a bachelor's degree in accounting. In Dec. 1954, he accepted a position as an Accountant with Halliburton Services in Duncan, OK, where he worked for more than 37 years. He retired in Dec. 1991 as Senior Executive Vice President / Administration and Controller. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior when he was 12 years old. Sid was very active in the ministry of every church of which he was a member. A man of great humility, he was never "too big" to do anything he was asked to do in that ministry, from mowing the church lawn to cooking biscuits and gravy for the Men's Bible Study. He reflected God's love to everyone he met, not in a preachy way but in a genuine, caring way. A Funeral is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. at the Village Baptist Church. A Graveside Service will follow at Duncan Cemetery in Duncan, OK at 2:30 p.m., Dr. Brad Allen officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sid's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Larry and Edwine Adams Assistance Fund, in care of the Baptist Village Communities in Oklahoma City.
