Sheila Sadler Grinnell - Sheila Sadler, 77, of Grinnell died on November 27, 2019, at UnityPoint Health Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 4th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson, Grinnell Regional Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Pallbearers are Brett and Kyle Sadler, Mike Jones, John Dale, John Guthrie, and Dave Phipps Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 3rd, at the Smith Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be designated to the donor's choice. Sheila was born on April 17, 1942, in Lynnville, the daughter of Lawrence and Frances Shaffer Thomas. She was raised in Montezuma and was a 1960 graduate of Montezuma High School. She then received her associate's degree at A.I.B. in Des Moines, where she was living while attending school there. On February 21, 1971, she was united in marriage with Russell Sadler, at the Grinnell First Baptist Church. The couple lived in Grinnell and raised their children together. Sheila was employed with the State of Iowa for 36 years as an Income Maintenance worker, with her office located on Commercial Street in Grinnell and later as Supervisor Child Support Recovery in Marshalltown. She retired in 1997. Sheila enjoyed traveling with Russ while driving over the road Semi-Tractors and delivering Winnebago RV's. The couple had traveled to all 50 states, with her adventures to Hawaii and Alaska, which they drove to, being among her favorite states. She loved fishing and boating, especially to Lake Thunderhead in Missouri and with Nicky Boy Charters on Lake Michigan. Endless motorcycle rides were always a joy, including riding to Sturgis, South Dakota. She loved the outdoors. She was an avid fan of Elvis and the Iowa Hawkeyes. But, most importantly, was her love and support for her family. Survivors include her husband, Russ of Grinnell; three children, Doug Sadler of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Greg (Denise) Sadler of Grinnell, and Debra Sadler of Grinnell; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Sadler of Bella Vista, Arkansas; one brother, Jerry Thomas of Montezuma; seven grandchildren, Brett Sadler of Des Moines, Alison (Jacob) Myrtue of Schaller, Iowa, Jessalyn Sadler of Kansas City, Kelly Stark of Houston, Kyle (Sam) Sadler of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Kali Shook of Marshalltown, and Matthew Sadler of Harger City, Wisconsin; 10 great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sons, Jason, Steven, and Scott Sadler.
