Sara Amelia Dixon
Sara Amelia Dixon Sara Amelia Dixon of Givens Estates, Asheville, NC, died August 25, 2018, two weeks before her 97th birthday. Born in 1921, she was the daughter of Albert T. and Hessie McMurry Dixon of Hendersonville, NC. She lived a full life of generous service. Sara received her BS in Elementary Education from Southeastern State College in Durant, OK, and her MA from the Presby-terian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA. Sara served as a Presby-terian Church, U.S.A. mis-sionary educator in Mex-ico, Peru, and Chile from 1952 until 1986, and then at a border ministry in Hildago, TX. She was known as an excellent bi-ble teacher, choir director, translator, and curriculum writer. Her book, Una Nuevo Perspectiva de la Education Cristiano, The English Translation, was published in 1979, second edition in 1982. After re-tiring, she was active with the Guatemala Partner-ship Program of the Pres-bytery of Western North Carolina, making many trips to Guatemala to teach classes. Sara was a Ruling Elder at Grace Covenant Pres-byterian Church. Since 2011 she had been a mem-ber of New Hope Presby-terian Church. Sara is survived by her sister, Martha Wilkerson of Loudon, TN; brother-in-law, Worth Wilkerson; sis-ter-in-law, Margaret Dixon; nieces Sonya Todd, Judy Wagner, Monica Miller; nephews Phil Dixon, Kevin Wilkerson, Thomas Dixon; many cousins, particularly Jack Bass of Givens, the Gibbs family and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Edwin Dixon and David Dixon; niece, Linda Lee; nephew, Michael Dixon; and sister-in-law, Jean Dixon. Sara's Memorial service is scheduled for Septem-ber 29 at 2:00 PM in the Pulliam Chapel at Givens Estates, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Ashville, NC.
