Sally Barrett Evansville, IN - Erma L. "Sally" (Koester) Schnarr Scherer Barrett, age 101, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 1st, 2019 at West River Health Campus. She was born Erma Linda Koester on October 1, 1918 to the late Anton and Louise (Knapp) Koester in St. Wendel, Indiana where she grew up the fifth of ten children. In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by husbands George Schnarr, Herman Scherer, and Joseph Barrett; by a son Richard Schnarr; stepson David Barrett; stepdaughter Mildred Hartig Rickardt; son-in-law Don Wallar; sisters, Ludwina Eisenhower and Eloise Conen and by six brothers Urban, Oscar, Edward, Clinton, Anthony, and Ralph Koester. Sally is survived by daughter Georgia Schnarr Wallar and son John (Sandi) Schnarr; stepchildren Bill Barrett, Jack Barrett and Linda (Bob) Treece; grandchildren Eric Wallar (Marjorie Penrod), Sheila (Timothy) Reichl, Christian Schnarr, Adam (Kim) Schnarr, Lynda (Jeffrey) Racicot and Marlene (Joseph) Mendonca; step-grandchildren Barbara West and Bonnie (Terry) Schulteis; great-grandchildren, John Wallar, Anne Wallar, Wade Reichl, Lee Reichl, Madeline Racicot, Joelle Racicot, Dominic Racicot, Zeph Mendonca, Bianca Mendonca and Noah Schnarr. She is also survived by one brother Leon (Peggy) Koester, a sister-in-law Vernita Koester, several step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. During WWII, Sally worked for Briggs Manufacturing making military aircraft components. After her husband, George, became disabled, she worked at the Hilltop Inn for many years as a cook. Sally also worked in manufacturing at General Tire until she retired. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 6, 2019 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. John Brosmer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Wendel Catholic Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 3:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 AM until service time on Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 418 N. Wabash Ave, Evansville, IN 47712. We are very grateful to the staff of West River for Sally's care while she was a resident there; to Kindred Hospice; and to her friends Marty Kercher, Jenni, Eric, Draven and Thaddeus Hamilton, Dave and Debbie Lintzenich and Ralph Seib for their friendship, care and help over many years.
