Ruthann graduated with honors from the University of Iowa with a Master of Fine Arts degree. She raised her family with her former husband, Herb Welander, while teaching music for three decades in the Iowa public schools. She retired in Sun City, AZ. As a life-long learner, she loved to read, travel, meet new people and explore different cultures. Her joy of adventure led her to many countries all over the world, including Russia, India, China and Brazil. Throughout her retirement years, she contributed to her community in a variety of ways. She served as a mentor to elementary students to empower them with their reading. Pleasant memories were had by Ruthann, as an active member in Delta Kappa Gamma for many years. As a leader in Friendship Force, she brought many people together. She sang in two community choirs, and especially enjoyed playing the piano for friends at Brookdale, and for her Sun City Kiwanis Club, where she also volunteered with fellow members at Diamondback baseball games. As an avid sports fan of the Phoenix Suns, she rarely missed a game, and would watch a game wherever she was if it was at all possible. Ruthann was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Diane Collins; five sisters: Ethellen Hoyt, Adrienne McCracken, Hanna Zola Dunham, Martha Jane Scott and Esther Lee Barham; and three brothers, Riley Davis, Tom Davis and George Davis.
