In memory of
Ronald Michael Cupples
Lifelong Anchorage, Alaska, resident Ronald Michael Cupples, 73, died on Aug. 16, 2018, at home surrounded by family following a brief illness. Born to Avis and Archie Cupples of Anchorage, Ron graduated from West High School, continuing on to study engineering at the University of Arizona. Ron served in the Alaska National Guard and on active duty in the U.S. Army, being discharged as a Sergeant in July 1971. In 1979, Ron married Roberta Hansen Morgan and together they began raising their two daughters, Ronny and Cheryl, growing the family the following year with the addition of a son, Robert. He most often described himself as a general contractor, but his entrepreneurial spirit led him in many additional directions. From installing cigarette racks in gas stations to delivering luxury beds, he was always searching for additional ways to provide for his family. Ron was very active in community affairs throughout his life, including his involvement with the Captain Cook Jaycees, the relocation and preservation of the Oscar Anderson House and sitting on the planning committee for Town Square Park. Frequently traveling the globe in search of new friends, his business card identified himself as an "Ambassador to the World." He had taken over 37 cruises, and on his last and final cruise he earned his Five Star Mariner status on Holland America, an achievement years in the making. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Diana. He is survived by his wife, Roberta; their three children, Ronny, Cheryl and Robert; his brothers, Emery and Mark; and four grandchildren. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at First Congregational Church, 2610 East Northern Lights Boulevard in Anchorage.
