Robert L. Phillips UPPER MT. BETHEL TWP. Robert L. Phillips, 86, of Upper Mt. Bethel Twp., PA, passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem, PA. Robert was born in Upper Mt. Bethel, PA, on July 13, 1931, a son of the late Granville and Annie (Labar) Phillips. He was the widower of Carolyn D. (Miller) Philips, who passed away in 2005. Robert was a 1949 graduate of Bangor High School, where he was very active with the Future Farmers of America. He was also a graduate of the Dairy Technician Program at Penn State University. Robert was employed as a foreman and knitter at the former APEX Texicon in Upper Mt. Bethel Twp., PA, until retiring in 2002. Prior to that, he was employed at the former J & J manufacturing, the former Collins & Aikman, and the former Stroudsburg Engine Works. After retiring, he was employed as part of the custodial staff at CIT in Forks Twp., PA. Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Bangor, PA. Robert was also a member of the Bangor Elks Lodge 1106, the Portland Masonic Lodge 311 F& A.M., and the Bangor American Legion post, and was a proud former member for East Bangor Vol. Fire Co. Robert is survived by a son, Robert E. Phillips, wife, Theresa; two daughters, Glenda S. Kellow and Carol L. Gillow; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan and Lauran Gillow, Wendy Stitzer, Tomi-Jon and Jaime Whisted; Robert Joshua and Jacob Phillips, and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Gaffney Parsons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Lillian Lane, "Village of Johnsonville", Bangor, PA, with Rev. Michael J. Scholtes officiating. Family and friends are also invited to call 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Reformed Cemetery in Mt. Bethel, PA. Online condolences may be offered at gaffneyparsons.com .
