Nov. 9, 1927 - Dec. 7, 2018 OKLAHOMA CITY Richard Thompson died on Dec. 7, 2018. He was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Alexandria, LA to James and Mary Thompson. He was one of six children. Richard went to college at age 17 at Bethany-Peniel College. He met his wife, Ella, during this time while she was singing in a trio at a Baptist church; three months later, they were married. Richard became a licensed Nazarene minister. They had two children, John Harrel and Debra Susan. His first pastorate was in Hammond, LA. The majority of his pastorates were done in Texas with a stint in Florida. After his pastorates, he opened Thompson's Jewelry in downtown Bethany, from which he retired. He enjoyed flying, fishing, motorcycles and playing the guitar. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and wife. Survivors include son, John Thompson; daughter, Debra Phillips; grandchildren, Traci Ayers and husband Rob, Amy Shirola and husband Andy, Casey Phillips and wife Sandra, and Eli Thompson and wife Michelle; great-grandchildren, Alton, Alayna, Avery, and Aubin Ayers; Carson, Neely, and Karly Shirola; and Isaac Phillips. Viewing will be on Monday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. with family present 6-7 p.m. at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. in Mercer-Adams Chapel, interment in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
