In memory of
Raymond Conrad "Connie" Thiel
Mr. Raymond Conrad "Connie" Thiel, 80, of Burlington was called from his family farm to the greener pastures of heaven on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 11:31 a.m. His labor is done, the fences have been mended and he has hung up the tools to rest in God's eternal beauty and land. A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of 53 years to Shirley Morris Thiel, who survives and the son of Henry Jackson Thiel Sr and Eva Lauten Thiel, both deceased. He was a member of the N. C. Air National Guard and retired from Bell South. He was a life member of C.W.A. where he served as President, Vice-President, and Treasurer of the Local 3602 Chapter and Vice-President of C.W.A. State Political Council. Connie was a very active member of Stony Creek Presbyterian Church since 1946 and served as church elder and Sunday school teacher. Connie was a member of the North Central Fire Department board for many years. He was also a Mason. In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include a son, Gary Lee Thiel; brother, Henry Thiel and wife Peggy of Burlington; sister, Mary Ellis and husband Rick, also of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews. Connie loved to celebrate happy time with his family and friends, especially those who were serious NC State Wolfpack fans like himself. Quiet time and reflection was spent at the family lake and cabin with his beloved pets or at the couple's second home, Smith Mountain Lake. A celebration of Connie's life will be conducted at Stony Creek Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. by Pastor Mason Todd with the family receiving friends in the fellowship hall of the church following the service. Memorials may be made to Stony Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund or North Central Volunteer Fire Department. Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington is assisting the family. Condolences may be offered at www.richandthompson.com .
