Ralph E. Be Vard Jr. December 29, 2018 Ralph Edward Be Vard Jr., 81, died December 29, 2018 at the Southern Arizona VA Hospital, Tucson, AZ, of liver cancer. Born on January 21, 1937 in Cleveland, OH, to Ralph E. Sr. and Virginia (Fleming) BeVard, he moved to the Syracuse, NY area in August 1946. He attended the Manlius School and then Elbridge Central School, where he excelled at sports. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959. Ralph was predeceased by his mother in 1966, his father in 2005, and brother Peter in 2006. Surviving are children, Debbie (Henry Martinez) Morales of Sahuarita, AZ, Warren (Deirdre) of West Chester, PA, Tim of Baldwinsville, NY, Amy Jo of Syracuse, NY, Eric (Gretchen) of Warners, NY and Alex (Grace) of Tucson, AZ; siblings, Virginia of Arlington, VA, Marilyn Prehm of Alexandria, VA, Karen (Jack) Tucker of Virginia Beach, VA, Jon (Mary Jane) of Liverpool, NY, Jim (Charlotte) of Red Creek, NY, Laurie (Chris) Brown of Kirkville, NY and Marcus (Elaina) of Manlius, NY. Other survivors include 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; stepmother, Renate BeVard of East Syracuse, NY; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Retired from Crouse-Hinds, Ralph worked in machine repair and as a shop steward. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Unfortunately, he lost a leg after a motorcycle accident, but that didn't stop him from riding motorcycles. When riding his motorcycle was no longer possible, he visited his favorite haunts by electric scooter. His funeral took place January 10, 2019 in Sahuarita, AZ, with burial in the Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Marana, AZ. Family and friends are invited to the Ralph Be Vard Jr. Memorial Ride and Picnic Sunday, July 21. The ride begins at noon at Chapman Park, 1463 Rt. 31, Bridgeport, NY and the picnic is at 2 p.m. at the American Legion, 8529 Smokey Hollow Rd., Baldwinsville, NY.
