R. BRUCE McAULIFFE
age 89, of Granger Township, passed away February 11, 2020 with his family at his side. He was born on February 23, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Richard Patrick and Mary Eleanor (Staley) McAuliffe. He graduated from Campion High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and John Carroll University. Bruce was an optician having various locations in the Cleveland area. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Bruce was a devout founding member of Holy Martyrs Catholic Church in Medina. He was an active, longtime member of the Medina Co. Beekeepers Assoc. where he held numerous positions including president and treasurer. Bruce loved the opera and classical music and was an avid antique clock collector. Upon retirement he began his second career as a Bug and Grass Manager in Granger Township. Additionally, he was cared for by numerous cats, most notably Pilla and Mr. Humphreys. Above all else, Bruce cherished the time he spent with his family and sharing his knowledge and stories. Bruce is survived by his loving children Bruce (Suzy) McAuliffe, Matthew (Bridget) McAuliffe, M. Tate (Gerry Murphy) McAuliffe, and J. Ashleigh (Kenneth) Spees; dear grandchildren Colin, Marly, and Rowan McAuliffe and Jacqueline and Tommy McAuliffe; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 31 years, Marcey, in 2000, and his sister Carol Wojcik. The family will receive friends from 9-10:00 am on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 3100 Old Weymouth Rd, Medina, OH 44256. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow the visitation at 10:00 am Saturday at the church. Burial with military honors will be held at Granger-Fairview Cemetery in Granger Township. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5075 Windfall Rd., Medina, OH 44156 or Gigi's Playhouse, 15316 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, OH 44107.
