Frederic E. Rubin
Frederic E. Rubin, 98, of Homosassa, passed away May 4, 2020 in Chapin, South Carolina. Mr. Rubin was born on September 10, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Adolph and Lenora (Krumsieg) Rubin. Mr. Rubin was a WWII US Army Air Corps Veteran stationed in Grafton Underwood, England. He was a 2nd LT and served with the 8th Air Force, 384th Bomb Group, 545th Bombardment Squadron, flying B17s. Mr. Rubin completed 30 missions over Europe, 24 as lead navigator, serving from June 1944 until January 1945. He was awarded the ETO Ribbon with 3 stars, the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Presidential Unit Citation for a mission that resulted in a breach through the Siegfried Line in France and Germany. Mr. Rubin attended the University of Illinois, College of Agriculture (Dairy Technology) and, following his military service, began his career as foreman at Rubin's Dairy in Shelbyville, Illinois. In the early 1960s Mr. Rubin accepted a position with the FAA and moved his family to Tampa, Florida, and was later transferred to Miami, Florida where he worked until his retirement in 1982. Upon his retirement he and his wife, Melba, moved to Citrus County and built their retirement home in Crystal River. Mr. Rubin was an avid gardener, and also spent many leisure hours building and flying model airplanes, a hobby he had enjoyed since his boyhood. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Carol A. Gay of Orange Park, Florida; Dr. Linda C. Archer (Robert) of Norfolk, Virginia; Marilyn K. Kramer (Roy) of Chapin, South Carolina; William W. Rubin (Julie) of Pompano Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren: Meredith Kramer Buttler (Trey), Elizabeth Archer Wheeler (Jeffery), Erin Gay, Steven Kramer, William Kramer, Taylor Rubin Allen (Dawson), W. Wyatt Rubin; and three great-grandchildren: Kade Buttler, Meridian Buttler, and Amelia Mae Wheeler. Frederic was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Melba Bouington Rubin, his second wife Helen Kurtz Rubin, his brother Warren Rubin, sister Anita Plohocky, and son-in-law Stephen Gay. Graveside services with Military Honors will be conducted on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM from the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
