Elonwy Neer Harrison
Elonwy "Lonnie" Neer Harrison, dress designer, writer, artist, voracious reader, animal lover, political activist and enthusiast, and resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, died on Monday, June 7, 2021 at the age of 93. Elonwy was born in Dixon, Illinois on January 13, 1928 to Merle and Mildred Boggs Neer. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Jack Olsen; her second husband, Weeks T. Harrison; and a son, Jonathan Olsen. She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Harrison; son, Jeffrey Harrison (Katherine A. Liao); granddaughter, Liliana Harrison Navarrete; brother, Robert Neer (Kay Neer); nieces, Susan, Betsy, and Christine Neer; nephew, Thomas Neer; and cousins, Norton, Linda, Libby, and Scott Harrison. From the 1960's until the 1980's, Elonwy owned and operated her clothing store, Wildflower, located in uptown New Orleans on Maple Street. In the mid-80's Elonwy moved to Paris, France, with her dog Benchley where they spent eight happy and eventful years making lots of lifelong friends, writing, and generally enjoying the Bohemian lifestyle that Paris offered. When she returned to New Orleans, she started her own writers' workshop where she made many friends and inspired many budding writers. Elonwy was known for her honesty, generosity, magnanimity, optimism, sense of humor, and love of family, friends, and life. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church, 3900 Saint Charles Ave. in New Orleans, on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 1pm in the Chapel. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Elonwy's memory to Zeus's Rescues, by visiting www.zeusrescues.org .
