Anne James
James, Anne 7/14/1935 - 4/12/2021 Candler, NC Anne James Breiholz Van Sickle, 85, of Candler, NC, died on April 12 after a struggle with dementia. Anne was born in Iowa and moved to Ann Arbor in 1944. She was a proud member of the Ann Arbor High School Class of 1953 and graduated in 1957 from the University of Michigan, where she was a Delta Gamma and swam with the Michifish. Anne married Bruce "Buck" Breiholz and moved to Saratoga, CA, in 1958. There they raised their two sons, Brad and Jeff, and Anne worked as an artist. In 1986, Anne returned to Ann Arbor. She continued to paint, worked at the John Leidy Shop, and entertained countless family, friends and 4-legged companions at her townhouse by UM stadium. At a 50th AA High School reunion, Anne reconnected with classmate Charlie Van Sickle. They married in 2013 and split their time between Ann Arbor and North Carolina. Anne was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Breiholz (2007). She is survived by her husband, Charlie Van Sickle, her son, Brad Breiholz, and two granddaughters, Clare and Camille Breiholz. She is also survived by her sister, Kirsten (James) Darnton. A celebration of Anne's life will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 1-4pm, at the Polo Fields Country Club in Ann Arbor. Please RSVP to Brad Breiholz at brdhlz03@aol.com or 734-476-0553. Anne appreciated every glimpse of beauty that passed before her eyes. She found joy in the smallest things and shared it with everyone lucky to know her. She was truly one of a kind.

About Memorial Trees

Honor a loved one by planting trees in their memory. Trees are planted in a forest with the greatest need, at the best suitable time (typically spring or fall), by a team of certified arborists.

Your Sympathy Gift Includes:

  • A digital certificate, customized with your message, that can be printed for your records or given to the family.
  • An entry in your loved one’s guest book, noting your contribution.
  • A listing in a memorial tree registry, showing that trees were planted in honor of your loved one.

Why Plant Trees?

This memorial tree planting will assist in reforestation, improve forest health and area watersheds, and provide a critical habitat for threatened and endangered wildlife.

By planting memorial trees, you not only honor the life and legacy of your loved one — you also help to preserve our beautiful national forests for generations to come.
