In memory of
Robert Lyon Sr.
Robert Lyon, Sr (Bob) Perry Bob was born in Lansing December 15, 1935, but spent most of his life in Perry, Michigan. Other than just a few early years, he attended Shaftsburg/Perry Schools. He was predeceased by his wife Wanda (Marrison) in 2014, Son John in 2012, and step-daughter Patty (Rugg) in 1963. He still lived in the house both he and Wanda built in the 50's on family property. Over the years he added on several times, bought adjacent property, put in a pond, and planted many trees. Robert's biggest pride was his family and he was happiest surrounded by them. His is survived by their children Robert Jr, (Jamie), Ronald, Sue (Dave), and Kristi (Cam). He also will be missed by 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and two cats. His parents were Delbert and Germaine Lyon, but from a young age was raised with love by his Grandparents, Claude and Lena Lyon. His Sisters Marion, Tootie, and Betty predeceased him, his Brother Elbert (Jane) survives. In the late 50's he proudly served the US Army in Germany. Another source of pride and accomplishment was being an employee of Michigan State University for 40 years. He started cleaning offices and then spent many years as the Supervisor of Mail Operations of MSU. He was known for his work ethic and the ability to "get stuff done". Close to his retirement they bought a cabin up in Mackinaw City and had many good times traveling back and forth. There will soon be a bench placed in the park by the Mackinaw Bridge that will have a name plate on it for Bob and Wanda. Bob loved music, especially the old country classics like Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash. If you stopped in, you had to turn it down because he loved it loud. The last several years his health went downhill but he was tough and bounced back up more times than not. He was one of the strongest willed people any of us could know. Son Ron moved in the last several years to help him live at home, which is where Dad wanted to be. He enjoyed taking a country drive and going to second hand stores. For many years he tinkered with John Deere lawn tractors, and could repair most any of them. You could say it was an obsession of his. The next time you see one with a for sale sign, be glad he didn't get there first, because he would have bought it before you could. So long Dad, you gave us the strength to carry on without you…but it won't be easy. Funeral services will be held at the Shaftsburg United Methodist Church on Thursday May 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, Perry Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to the family by going to www.watkinsfuneralhomes.com . Memorials are suggested to the church.

Why Plant Trees?
