Diana Jane Holden
Diana Jane Holden Diana Jane Holden, age 73, of Ames, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021 at her home. A private family service will be held at a later date. Born on November 18, 1947 at home in Guthrie Center, Diana was the daughter of Hartley "Hap" and Augusta Jane (Bower) Westbrook. She lived in Guthrie Center until her family moved to Atlantic in 1952. Diana graduated from Atlantic High School in 1966 and then attended Iowa State University. During her college years, she took a trip to New Mexico to visit her older brother, John Westbrook. While on that trip, Diana met Robert "Beaver" Holden and the couple was united in marriage on April 25, 1970 at First Methodist Church in Farmington, New Mexico. In 1975, Diana and Beaver moved with their children to Ames, where Diana began working in her family's business, Hap's Air Service. She started as the bookkeeper and eventually became the Owner and President of the company. Diana continued to proudly own and operate the business. Diana was a very talented artist. Diana's artistic nature shown through all aspects of her life, from the way she dressed to how she told a story. She was a member of the Iowa Watercolor Society and had her paintings on display as part of their traveling show. Diana could do anything she set her mind to. She enjoyed painting, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Diana loved animals, she raised Arabian and quarter horses, and she always had a dog nearby. Diana especially loved her grandsons and leaves behind many great friendships. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, wit, kindness, generosity and inherited Westbrook time keeping skills. Diana is survived by her husband, Beaver of Ames; her daughters, Christa Holden of Ames and Jennifer (Jeff) Smalley of rural Boone; her grandsons, Maxwell Smalley and Alexander Smalley of rural Boone; and the extended Holden family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her older brother, John Westbrook; and her mother and father-in-law, R. M. and Ruth Holden. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for Diana's family at www.adamssoderstrum.com .
