Catherine Mary "Cait" Courtney
Catherine "Cait" Mary Courtney Sparkill, NY - Catherine "Cait" Courtney of Sparkill, NY passed away at Nyack Hospital on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. She is the daughter of late Michael and Nora O'Connor and wife of the late John J. Courtney. Catherine was born and raised in County Kerry, Ireland and moved to New York in 1948. She was married to John in August 1949 and together they raised their four children in Riverdale, NY. Cait moved to Thorpe Village, Sparkill, NY in 2004. She was active in both the Riverdale and Thorpe Village communities and was a devout practicing Catholic her entire life. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sewing, crocheting, baking, singing Irish tunes and reciting poems from childhood. Kay, as she was known to her friends, worked as head waitress at the Cardinal Spellman Retreat House in Riverdale for over 35 years. Cait is survived by her son Neal and wife Vivienne; daughter Nora and husband Tom; daughter Margaret; daughter Eileen and husband Marc; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Nora O'Neill. A Mass of Catholic Burial was held on Wednesday, April 7th at 11am at the Chapel of the Sacred Heart, Thorpe Village, Sparkill, NY. Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, April 6th, 4-8pm at the Moritz Funeral Home, 98 Route 303 South, Tappan, NY.
