In memory of
Joseph Andrew Baldi
Baldi, Joseph Andrew April 9, 1917 - February 7, 2021 Joseph Andrew Baldi, aged 103, passed away peacefully at the Berkeley Assisted Living Center in Morganton, in the early morning hours of 7 February 2021. Joe was preceded in death by his treasured wife, Margaret, brothers Al and Louie, and sister Lucy. He leaves behind daughter, Patricia, and son Robert, grandchildren, Nichole, Carol Ann, Theodore, and Robert as well as 13 great-grandchildren. Joe was born and raised in Newark, NJ, the second son of Gennaro and Lucia Baldi. Growing up he took an interest in music, learning to play the banjo, guitar and bass fiddle. During World War II Joe served his country in a B25 Mitchel Bomber air group, with the Army Air Corps in North Africa as well as playing in bands with the USO. Joining the U.S. Navy Reserve, he also saw active duty aboard the USS Shakori and the USS Missouri during the Korean conflict. Joe was an electrical engineer with Western Electric Company and travelled extensively in that capacity working on Project Mercury in the 1960's, various communications projects for the Department of Defense, and diplomatic communications until his retirement in the early 1980's. Throughout his life his love of music never left him and he continued to play with various orchestras whenever possible. One of his proudest times was playing at Carnegie Hall with the Bell Telephone Orchestra. Upon retirement, Joe and his wife traveled around the world by air and by sea until Margaret's passing 12 years ago. Joe continued to enjoy travel all the way up to his 100th birthday, and had spent the last year and a half at the Berkeley being well taken care of. A special thanks to all the staff there for their love and support of Joe. More detailed information about Joe can be found at www.sossomanfh.com . Services will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Black Mountain at a future date to be announced. Sossoman Funeral Home www.sossomanfh.com

  • A digital certificate, customized with your message, that can be printed for your records or given to the family.
  • An entry in your loved one’s guest book, noting your contribution.
  • A listing in a memorial tree registry, showing that trees were planted in honor of your loved one.

Why Plant Trees?

This memorial tree planting will assist in reforestation, improve forest health and area watersheds, and provide a critical habitat for threatened and endangered wildlife.

By planting memorial trees, you not only honor the life and legacy of your loved one — you also help to preserve our beautiful national forests for generations to come.
