Robert T. "Terry" Sullivan
Colonel Robert T Sullivan, USAF (Retired)Terry Sullivan, loving husband and father of seven, born in Los Angeles to Thiel and Emily Sullivan, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the age of 85. He and his wife, Gloria, were long-time residents of Henderson, NV. Terry grew up in Los Angeles and is a graduate of Loyola High School @loyolahigh and went on to earn an Accounting degree from the University of Oregon @UOregon where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity @sigep and ran track.A thirty-year veteran of the United States Air Force, Terry received his commission in 1957 as a Distinguished Graduate of the USAF ROTC program at UofO. After earning his pilot's wings, Terry accumulated over 15,000 hours flying in bomber aircraft and served three tours in the Vietnam War as a B-52 pilot. During his final assignment as SAC Commander of Red Flag, Nellis AFB, Terry was instrumental in establishing the SAC Tactics School, the forerunner of the USAF Weapons School. Colonel Sullivan's military decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Medal with seven Oak Leaf Clusters.He was an exemplary member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Francis of Assisi, recognized once as the Knight of the Year. He also was an inaugural founding member of the USO chapter at McCarron Airport. It was very important to him to give back to the young service men and women who are so gallantly serving our country. One of his greatest passions was to help military families who had lost loved ones with the Families of the Fallen Response Team (FFRT).Terry married his college sweetheart, Gloria, and together they enjoyed over sixty years of total dedication to each other. He was happiest when with his wife, their children and their families. Terry passed peacefully with his family by his side and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria (Jenkins) Sullivan and his 7 children: Wendy Schaffer, husband Mark, son SSgt Austin Schaffer (USAF); Christine Peterson, husband Kevin, daughter Emilyann; Kelly Marie Sullivan; Terry Sullivan, Jr.; Amy Addis Farr, husband Armand, sons Connor, Durand, and Broc Addis, wife Janelle, and sons Clive and Lyle; Patrick Sullivan, wife Kelly Ann, children Avery, Colton, Ella, and Grey; Kathleen Sullivan Niles, children Sarah and Tyler; Terry's brother Thiel, and his sister Emily Miller. Terry was preceded in death by his brother Donn.Due to challenges from the pandemic, the services will be private, handled by Palm Eastern Mortuary. Burial with full military honors will be at the VA Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the USO ( uso.org ), the Wounded Warrior Project ( woundedwarriorproject.org ), or the American Heart and Stroke Association ( heart.org )
