In memory of
Deborah Anne Culhane
Deborah Anne Culhane September 15, 1947 - November 14, 2020 Deborah Culhane passed peacefully from this world in the early hours of November 14th. Loved ones were grateful to make possible her wish to be in her own bed at home with her kitties & to share the last day with their dear friend. Her cancer diagnosis & passing came as a surprise, having survived cancer 7 years before & developing over a short period of time. Debby was born in Boston, raised by adoptive parents Elinore Spencer Broems (Culhane) & Thomas A. Culhane, Jr. in Delaware & Pennsylvania & internationally with her father's Marine Corps assignments. Debby loved deeply & passionately engaged in life. She lived in Argentina as a child, was a horse trainer, lived on an ashram, loved motorcycles, once attended the bike rally in Sturgis, & embraced her calling as a nurse. Debby was a Reiki practitioner, continued her family's heritage as a Quaker, & practiced & explored meditation & spirituality. For twenty years, Debby created a strong & caring connection with her neighbors in W Eugene, remembering birthdays, & special occasions by presenting cards & messages signed by other neighbors. She was generous in all ways, taking in dogs at the end of their lives & cats abandoned and without homes. A month or so before her passing, Debby reflected on a line from her favorite character in Louise Penny's Gamache series: "In the midst of your nightmare, the final one, a kind lion will come with bandages in her mouth & lick you clean of fever & pick your soul up gently by the nape of the neck & caress you into darkness & paradise." She was hoping the town of Three Pines of the series was waiting for her on the other side. Sincerest appreciation to PeaceHealth Hospice of Sacred Heart & to Hospice Pet Advocates & Cat Rescue & Adoption Network who found foster homes for Debby's kitties.
