John Gipson
John Gipson Grayson - 1928-2020 John Gipson, 92, of Grayson passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grayson, KY. He was born December 17, 1928 at Fultz, KY; the first child of the late Joe and Ruth Littleton Gipson. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Wilma Debord Gipson; two brothers, Charles and Joe Paul Gipson; two sisters, Geneva Mayberry and Mildred Jackson; and a stepson, Kevin Duvall. John was of the Baptist faith and was a Deacon of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church, where he was affectionately known as the "Candy Man"; he was always sharing a sweet treat and words of kindness. He also served on the building committee as the church added its fellowship hall. John proudly served his Country with the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Trimble Masonic Lodge #145 in Grayson and the El Hasa Shrine Temple in Ashland, KY. John spent his career working as a welder with CSX Railroad and raising his family in Muncie, IN. After retirement, moving back to Grayson, he continued to volunteer helping people in the community. He is survived by his wife, Sue Horton Duvall Gipson; two sons, Johnny (Kim) Gipson of Nashville, IN, Doug (Joanne) Gipson of Riverside, IL; a daughter, Tamara (Mike) Lindsey of Muncie IN; a stepson, Eric (Joyce) Duvall; a stepdaughter, Paige (Dean) Perkins both of Grayson; five grandchildren, Gracie (Greg) Leach, Jonathan (Megan) Gipson, Katie (Kai) Whitt, Natalie (Phil) Weaver, and Wil Gipson; four great-grandchildren, Callie and Rayman Weaver, Isabella and Joey Gipson, and a step- granddaughter, Inday Sienes. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, Rob Lockheart, minister. Burial will follow in Littleton Cemetery at Fultz, KY, with Military Honors by the Kenova American Legion Post 93. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Due to the COVID pandemic, face coverings are required and social distancing will be observed. The funeral service will be webcast and online condolences may be sent at www.sparksfh.com
