In memory of
Maryellen R. Parsons
Surrounded by her loved ones, Maryellen Parsons passed away at home on Thursday, December 3, 2020 from COVID complications after a lengthy illness. She was born Maryellen Rita Thornton, August 25, 1938 in Springfield, MA to Elena and Raymond Thornton. She grew up working on her grandparent's farm, when she met Delmar Parsons, also of Springfield, and the two married in November 1959. They started their own nameplate business in Connecticut, which they sold and eventually moved to Greenfield in 1974. After a few uncertain years, they were able to purchase their beloved home on Phyllis Lane. Mary worked at JH Smith Company and retired from Bete Fog Nozzle Company to help take care of her grandchildren. She loved to go out for dinner and country drives with her husband, as well as attending her grandsons many sporting events. Maryellen was a kind, funny and tough lady who leaves many fond memories for those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be greatly missed. She leaves behind her daughter, Diana M. Schindler and her partner, Joshua Knechtel of Greenfield, MA, her grandsons, Dean J. Schindler, and Owen J. Schilling both of Denver, CO, and Jack and Cole Knechtel, of Greenfield, her brother-in-law Raymond Parsons, sister-in-law Nancy, nieces Monica and Logan all of Monterey Bay, CA. She also leaves her kitty, Suni and her favorite pup, Diego. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Peter Thornton of Jensen Beach, FL and her husband of 56 years, Delmar. Diana and Josh express their deepest and most sincere gratitude to the amazing angels from Pioneer Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, Lifepath and Meals on Wheels; they supported Mary as she carried out her most courageous feat, to stay at home, and provided care during difficult days. They were by us when we laughed, cried, they helped us love more deeply, and in the end, helped us find peace. To Linda, Diane, Catherine, Marie, and Roger, we will never forget you. Donations can be made to these organizations in Mary's honor at pioneervalleyhospice.org or lifepathma.org . Services will be private. Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
