In memory of
James G. Lounsbury
Lounsbury, James G 3/18/1953 - 10/12/2020 Jim Lounsbury aged 67 of Ann Arbor, Michigan died on October 12, 2020 as a result of a fatal car accident. He was born on March 18, 1953 in Springfield, Ohio to Dr. John F. Lounsbury and Dorothea F. Eggers. His family later moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan as a young boy where he attended Roosevelt High School and later Arcadia High School in Phoenix, Arizona. Jim attended college briefly but decided to leave to pursue another form of education by traveling the world. He returned to the U.S. and partnered with close friends Greg Munger and Les Birleson to operate the infamous Ha Ha's Pizza in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Soon his beloved Michigan roots beckoned him back home and he resettled in Ypsilanti where for several years he worked with his brothers John and Craig at Huron Valley Roofing Company. Jim's true passion was painting. He was a self taught oil painter and he painted almost daily for over 50 years. He has travelled throughout the Eastern United States participating in art fairs and art competitions. He has won numerous awards which led to numerous publications. Jim has been a longtime vendor at the Ann Arbor Farmer's Market selling his paintings and his one of a kind bird feeders. This has been his favorite endeavor and has produced many lifetime lasting friendships. Jim was a compassionate man who dearly loved his family and friends. He loved reading, and classical music, had a passion for nature and a deep appreciation for all of God's creatures. Jim found solace in the outdoors throughtout his life where he found a sense of peace and inspiration for many of his paintings. Times spent hiking, camping and walking local parks were amongst his favorite. Jim deeply loved Quetico Provincial Park Ontario, Canada and the time he spent canoeing, fishing, enjoying the woods and making memories with his dear friends and his brother John. Jim was preceded in his death by his parents and he leaves his beloved wife Jules and his brothers John and Craig (Kathy), and his nephew David (Janet), his nieces Lindsey (Brian), Casey, and Allison (Austin), as well as multiple grandnieces and grandnephews. Cremation has already taken place. With regret, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are postponing a gathering but look forward to joining together with family and friends for a celebration of Jim's life in Spring of 2021. Details to follow in an additional obituary posted closer to the date. Family Requests that if you are so inclined a donation to honor Jim's memory a donation to his favorite charity is appreciated, The Humane Society of Huron Valley.
