Catherine Curtis
Curtis, Catherine Catherine M. Curtis, age 87, of Ada, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2019. She was born on September 7, 1932, in Detroit, to the late Angus & Margaret (Campbell) MacFarlane. Catherine married Richard E. Hoyna on April 21, 1951, in Detroit. They had three children Peggy Vallad, Richard Hoyna, and Carol Vogelsberg. He preceded her in death in 1970. Catherine married David A. Curtis on June 18, 1977, in Livonia, MI. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to Torch Lake where they spent a few years enjoying beautiful Northern Michigan. They then moved to Ada in 1983 where they continued to reside until Catherine's death. While living up north, she worked as a secretary at a girls' camp, on Elk Lake and later worked in the bakery at D&W Fresh Market in Cascade where she helped with the sales of cakes and other baked goods. Catherine enjoyed crosswords, cooking, reading, and having her daily afternoon tea. She was a member of Thornapple Community Church in Grand Rapids. She is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Carol (Don) Vogelsberg; grandchildren, Lindsay and Luke. She is preceded in death by two of her children, Peggy Vallad and Richard Hoyna. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019, at Thornapple Community Church, 3260 Thornapple River Dr SE, Grand Rapids, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to her church, Thornapple Community Church.
