Brigida "Virginia" Rakoczy
Brigida 'Virginia' Rakoczy Gentle soul; had a kind word for everyone she met Brigida "Virginia" Rakoczy (nee Santangelo), 91, of East Hanover, N.J., went home to the Lord on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019. Brigida was the third of five children born to Fortunato "Fred" and Maria Santangelo. She was a long-time resident of Newark, N.J., until she met and married the love of her life, Leonard Rakoczy. They raised their family in East Hanover where she resided for the past 52 years. Brigida was known as a gentle soul who had a kind word for everyone she met. Although she suffered many adversities in her life, she never complained. She was strong in her faith as she was humble, charitable, forgiving, loving and kind. She was predeceased by her parents, Fortunato and Maria Santangelo; stepmother, Julia Santangelo; husband, Leonard Rakoczy; sister, Nancy DeCorte and brother, Dr. Richard Santangelo. She is survived by her daughter, Maria and her husband, David Whelan; son, Anthony Rakoczy and his wife, Nana; grandsons, Kenichiro and Tomotaka Rakoczy; sisters, Louise Sules and Frances Collito. She was also the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the wake on Friday, Oct. 11 from 4 through 8 p.m. at the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave., Roseland, N.J. 07068. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 9:45 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, East Hanover, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
