Leroy John DeVries
DeVries, Leroy John Our merciful and gracious Lord took Leroy John DeVries, age 57, to his heavenly home on October 7, 2019 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was a godly, hardworking man, full of wisdom, humor and kindness. Leroy will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 32 years, Sandra DeVries; his children Abigail and Tedd Van Solkema (grandchildren Stella and Leo), Bradley DeVries, and Nicholas DeVries. He is survived by his parents, Martin and Emma DeVries; brothers Martin (Karen) DeVries, Dan (Angela) DeVries, Rick (Mari) DeVries, and sister Cori (Jon) Hop; mother-in-law, Hazel Besselsen; sisters-in-law Susan (Rick) Noorman, Sara (Keith) Noorman, Shari (Ricky) Gritters, and Sharlene (Craig) Kuiper; brother-in-law, Steve Besselsen; and many nieces and nephews. Leroy graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a horticulture degree. He spent the last 36 years using this knowledge and pursuing his passion. He worked at Henry Mast Greenhouses and Masterpiece Flower Company. He enjoyed working with the crews, his business associates, and travelling as he established many relationships over the years with people around the globe. He also was a sincere Christian man, using his talents to serve as an elder, school board member, and Bible study leader for many years. His family will greet relatives and friends Friday, October 11, 2019 from 1-3 PM and 5-8 PM at the Cook Funeral Home, Byron Center Chapel, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center. Memorial services will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 12, 2019 at First Byron Christian Reformed Church, 8541 Byron Center Ave, SW, Byron Center, MI with visitation from 10-10:45 AM. Interment will be a Winchester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent in his name to the Society for Protestant Reformed Special Education or Emmanuel Hospice.
