Ferdinand "Fred" Assenza
Ferdinand 'Fred' Assenza, 89 Mechanical engineer and willing 'Mr. Fix-It' to his family, friends Ferdinand (Fred) Assenza, 89, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019 at Carmel Richmond Health Care & Rehab Center. Fred was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Staten Island in 1970, settling in Great Kills. He was a mechanical engineer and construction project estimator and in his spare time he did home improvements and carpentry. He was a parishioner of Holy Child Church and the Monday morning prayer group, as well as the Cursillo movement and the Great Kills Swim Club. He is survived by his beloved wife, Grace; he was the dear brother to Mary and Joseph; fond brother-in-law to Rosemary; loving father to his two children, Thomas and Jennifer; dearest father-in-law to Karen and Bobby; devoted grandfather to Olivia, Robert, Thomas, Jason, Matthew and Timothy. Fred is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as grand-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, located at 5411 Amboy Road, Staten Island, N.Y.
