In memory of
Stephen R. Jordan
Stephen R. Jordan Nashville - Age 65, passed away September 7, 2019. He was born on October 9, 1953 in Memphis, Tennessee. Joyful middle school years lived with parents and two brothers in a home on a street full of friends in Alexandria, Virginia, down the road from Mt. Vernon, with the nation's capital just across the Potomac, stirred in young Stephen a passionate dedication to the polis and to justice, driving his study at Memphis State University, where first he earned a degree in Political Science, and then the Juris Doctor. Serving the nation as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Army during the last decade of the Cold War, Stephen, in the century's final decade, worked as Reference Librarian for the State of Montana Law Library, located in Helena, where he married Patricia Jean Schaeffer on April 6, 1990. From 1999 through retirement fourteen years later, Stephen was a librarian at Vanderbilt University School of Law, the favorite aspect of which work was the opportunity it afforded him of teaching legal research classes and engaging with lively student minds. Among family memories, Stephen, ever active - practicer of yoga , two time Dallas White Rock Marathon runner, and an avid hiker - is remembered lovingly by nephews and nieces for how he would lead them, as children, ever higher up Montana Rocky Mountain trails - as he took higher all of us who loved him. Preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Jordan; son, Thomas Jordan; parents, Charleene Stephenson Jordan and William Thomas Jordan, Sr. Survived by his brothers, William Thomas Jordan, Jr. and Fred Charles Jordan (Juliany); nieces, Brandy Andrea Jordan and Kylie Charlene Jordan, Erin and Robin; nephews, James William Jordan, Brandon Andrew Jordan and William Han Jordan, Collin, Jonathan, Timothy and Jake; mother-in-law, Marjorie Schaeffer; several extended family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00pm, Sunday, September 22nd at St. David's Episcopal Church. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service at church. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. David's Episcopal Church. (6501 Pennywell Dr., Nashville, TN 37205)
