Charles Head Peay
Charles Head Peay, Jr. of Birmingham passed away on Saturday the 7th of September 2019. He was born May 15, 1926 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Sarah Martha Wilson Peay and Charles Head Peay. He attended Lakeview Grammar School and after graduation from Ramsay High School, he served over two years in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Charles was a member of SAE Fraternity and graduated from Auburn University with honors in Civil Engineering. After a brief teaching period at Auburn, he was employed by Polglaze and Basenberg in Birmingham where he earned his Professional Engineering and Land Surveying licenses. He then served as Executive Vice President of Schuler Industries, Inc. and head of its Steel Division. After retirement from Schuler, Charles spent brief periods with Brasfield and Gorrie, Inc., as Vice President and O'Neal Steel, Inc., as Director of Engineering and Construction. He was an active member of Canterbury United Methodist Church serving in many capacities. His outside interests were divided among hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Adrienne Peay Bramblet of Atlanta and Birmingham and Sarah Peay Hanna of Birmingham, and his wife of 59 years Patricia Woodard Peay (9/30/2010). He is survived by his sons Charles Head Peay, III and James Woodard Peay. The family expresses its gratitude to his healthcare professionals and the caring staffs at Home Instead, Mt. Royal Towers, and Brookdale University Park. The memorial service will commence at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 13th of September in the Chapel of Canterbury United Methodist Church. Friends are cordially invited to visit with family in the church parlor one hour prior to the service. The deceased and his family request no flowers, food, or other memorial donations.
