Cornelia D. Rettie
Cornelia D. Rettie CANANDAIGUA - Cornelia D. Rettie, age 91, passed away on Monday, Sept. 2, 2019. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Candice Rettie (Fong Cheng), Melanie Rettie (Thomas Bennin) and Ann Rettie (Mark Simonson); brother, John (Valerie) Donohue; and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, William M. Rettie in 2011; and brother, Edward Donohue. Mrs. Rettie was born in Utica, N.Y., and was the daughter of Edward and Cornelia (Middaugh) Donohue. She was a graduate of Utica College of Syracuse University and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Mrs. Rettie was a longtime member of the Junior League and was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Program. She was a member of St. Mary's Church. Mrs. Rettie will be fondly remembered for her many wonderful qualities. There was her exquisite sense of propriety and social graces, her thorough knowledge of current events and political issues, her impeccable sense of style and her delightful sense of whimsy. Mrs. Rettie had an abiding belief in the importance of family, church and patriotism. Even as we celebrate her life, she will be missed by all. A celebration of her life will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Ferris Hills at West Lake, Canandaigua. Inurnment will be with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the F. F. Thompson Foundation, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua, NY 14424. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., Canandaigua.
