Clare Taylor Wilson
Clare Taylor Wilson passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 11, 2019. She was almost 90 years old. Clare was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 29, 1929, to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Taylor. She graduated from high school in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where her father worked as an engineer on both the Manhattan Project and the building of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) among others. She attended the University of Georgia where she was among the first three women allowed to pursue a degree in architecture, graduating with a degree in landscape architecture. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority while at Georgia. After graduation, Clare worked in both Atlanta and New York as a drafting assistant in her father's engineering firm. She met Norville Wilson while leaving the Varsity in Atlanta, and shortly thereafter married and settled in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Always vacationing on the Gulf Coast, Norville and Clare eventually moved to Destin where they owned and operated the charming Frangista Beach Inn for many years. Clare enjoyed interior design and architecture, reading, travel, genealogy, humor, and spending time with her family. Friends remember her kind heart and selfless attitude which endeared her to everyone she met, as well as a treasure trove of family memories she loved to share. Clare was a talented architect and designer, an avid reader, a loving mother, and beloved grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Mr. Norville Wilson, Jr., and her son Norville Elliott Wilson III. She is survived by three children: Mrs. Mary Alice Lewis (John)of Madison, Florida, Dr. Clare Wilson of Destin, and Mr. William N. Wilson II (Mary Bess) of Destin, as well as eight grandchildren.
