In memory of
Dora (Babcock) Nelson
Nelson (Babcock), Dora of Fremont and formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019, four days after celebrating her 98th birthday. Dora was one of six children and was born and raised on a farm in Bellevue, MI. She married her high school sweetheart, Fred in 1940. Together they moved to Grand Rapids in 1945. Dora retired after many years of service to the Grand Rapids Public Schools where she worked in the Business Office. She was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. After Fred passed away in 2002, she later moved to Trillium Springs in Fremont. Dora loved traveling the U.S. with her husband Fred. She also enjoyed bowling, gardening and playing Bridge. Her biggest joy came from baking pies and desserts for her friends and family. Mourning her loss are her children, Richard (Karen) Nelson of Redondo Beach, CA and Mary (John) Duba of Fremont; grandchildren, Kevin (Cari) Gilbert, John (Kelly) Duba III, Karyn (Matt) Butler, Geoff (Rebecca) Nelson; and great grandchildren, Elyssa Gilbert, Carson and Madelyn Butler, Jack Duba, Emily and Brice Nelson. Thank you to the kind staff at Green Acres Assisted Living of Fremont for their compassionate care the past four years. Also thanks to Dr. Rob Poehl and Spectrum Health Hospice for their care and support. Funeral Services will be Monday, August 12, 2019 at 11 am at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A time of visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service beginning at 10 am. Dora will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fairplains Cemetery. Please consider a memorial contribution in Dora's name to Spectrum Health Hospice, 750 Fuller Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.

About Memorial Trees

Honor a loved one by planting trees in their memory. Trees are planted in a forest with the greatest need, at the best suitable time (typically spring or fall), by a team of certified arborists.

Your Sympathy Gift Includes:

  • A digital certificate, customized with your message, that can be printed for your records or given to the family.
  • An entry in your loved one’s guest book, noting your contribution.
  • A listing in a memorial tree registry, showing that trees were planted in honor of your loved one.

Why Plant Trees?

This memorial tree planting will assist in reforestation, improve forest health and area watersheds, and provide a critical habitat for threatened and endangered wildlife.

By planting memorial trees, you not only honor the life and legacy of your loved one — you also help to preserve our beautiful national forests for generations to come.
