Robert C. Hartung
Robert C. Hartung MERCERSBURG Robert C. Hartung, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Mercersburg on Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, with his family by his side. Born on Sept. 6, 1940, in Easton, PA, he was the son of the late Charles G. and Charlotte Quig Hartung of Hope, NJ. A lifelong dairy farmer, Bob and his family moved to Mercersburg in 1989 from Belvidere, NJ, with his sons where they farmed until 2016. Bob was a true steward of the soil and an excellent dairyman. Robert was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathy J. Hartung, four children: Karen Lifsey of Raleigh, NC, Susan (Brad) Beidel of Newburg, PA, Robert C. (Debra) Hartung Jr. of Mercersburg, and Thomas (Jennifer) Hartung of Westminster, SC. Bob is survived by his six grandchildren, Brandon Beidel of Charlotte, NC, Benjamin Beidel of Boise, Idaho, Charlotte Lifsey of Raleigh, NC, Heather (Brandon) Markovich of Mercersburg, Robert (Hailey) Hartung Jr. III of Mercersburg, and Kayla Hartung of Mercersburg, andthe light of his life - three great-grandchildren, Willow and Mack Hartung, and Stella Markovich. Robert was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Andy Lifsey, and two brothers and two sisters. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg with Pastor David Moore officiating. The family will receive friends and family 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Robert's children and grandchildren, contributions can be made to Franklin County 4-H Beef, Duane Hawbaker 11897 Welsh Run Rd., Mercersburg, PA 17236, or Conococheague FFA Alumni, 12868 Johnstons Lane, Mercersburg, PA 17236.
