NANCY TANIS
was born on October 4, 1924 and passed away at the age of 94 on July 8, 2019, with family at her side. Preceded in death by parents Arthur F. Young and Gladys Kellum Young, sister Jeanne Young Morris and brother Arthur F. Young Jr. M.D. She is survived by her beloved husband John (Jack) Tanis. They were married for over 46 years and beautifully blended two families. Nancy was a loving mother to seven children. Nancy Seelbach (William), Lizabeth Chockley (George Dee, deceased), Frederick W. Chockley III (Nancy), Laurel Chockley, Carrie Aho (Ray), John W. Tanis (Mary Sue), and David Tanis (Nina). Grandmother of Scott Seelbach (Chloe), Ryan Seelbach (Flannery), Katherine E. Chockley, Wilson P. Chockley, Joseph Tanis (Jacqueline), John R. Tanis, Sarah Aho, Emily Aho, Michael Dee (Ines), Deborah Wright (Howard), and Tracey Esperance (Tony). Great-grandmother of nine. Nancy was a graduate of Lakewood High School, attended Duke University, and was a graduate of Western Reserve University. She was a docent at the Cleveland Zoo and a lifetime trustee of the Cleveland Zoological Society. She was a volunteer and a member of the Children's Board of Lakewood Hospital for over 50 years. Memorials may be made to Youth Challenge, 800 Sharon Drive, Westlake, Ohio 44145 or to The Cleveland Zoological Society, 3900 Wildlife Way, Cleveland, Ohio 44109-3132. Services and a celebration of Nancy's life will be announced and held at a later date.
