In memory of
Catherine Vella Rossi
Catherine Vella Rossi LAWRENCEVILLE Catherine Vella Rossi, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, surrounded by her family. Born in Trenton, NJ, she attended St. Joachim's Elementary School, Villa Victoria Academy, Rider College, and earned a Masters in Education and Guidance from Rutgers University. She married Jerry M. Rossi in 1957. Jerry was part owner, and worked for M. Rossi and Son, a leather findings business when shoemaking was an art. An educator at heart and a lifetime member of the NEA, her first teaching job was at Pennsbury High School. Long after she left Pennsbury, former students came to her house to visit where, naturally, she fed them. In 2013 many of these former students came together and held a luncheon in her honor. She later taught at St. Joachim's where she made history come to life. She always enjoyed encounters with former students in the years that followed. Catherine had an open heart and an open house. Few things gave her greater pleasure than having family and friends gather at her house on Hamilton Avenue to enjoy good food and company. Whether it was holidays, parades, a birthday, or somebody was in from out of town, Catherine orchestrated these often chaotic culinary events like a symphony conductor to their inevitable successful conclusion. Her love of life, family and friends was more than evident as she regaled her company with story and song. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank A. Vella and Carrie Dileo Vella, and her husband, Jerry M. Rossi. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth, son-in-law, Keith of Lawrenceville NJ, and two grandsons, Michael of Washington, DC, and Andrew of Boston, MA. She is also survived by many Dileo cousins. The Rite of Reception will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at 9 a.m., at Our Lady of the Angels, Saint Joachim Church, 20-50 Butler St., Trenton, NJ. Calling hours will follow at the Church from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels/St. Joachim Church. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Catherine's memory to Capital Health Renal Dialysis Services, c/o Linda Wood, 750 Brunswick Avenue, Trenton NJ 08638 or Our Lady of the Angels Church, 19 Bayard Street, Trenton, NJ 08611. Arrangements are by the Brenna Funeral Home, Immordino Chapel, 1799 Klockner Road Hamilton, NJ 08619.
