Charles "Charlie" Vitello
Charles 'Charlie' Vitello, 91 WWII veteran, served 31 years with the NYPD Charles "Charlie" Vitello, 91, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., passed away with family by his side in his residence in Katy, Texas, on June 8, 2019. Charlie was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Salvatore and Marianna Vitello. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan Vitello. Mr. Vitello was a graduate of Bronx Vocational High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, served honorably and was a proud veteran of World War II. Continuing his life of service, Charlie joined the NYC Police Department in 1955. He retired in 1986 after 31 years of service with the NYPD. Charlie enjoyed a full life in retirement with Joan. They travelled throughout Europe, enjoyed the continental U.S. and Hawaii. Additionally, they visited their children, Charles and Christopher, and their "daughters," Patricia and Sonya, in their homes in Texas and Pennsylvania. Charlie adored his grandchildren. Christopher and his wife, Justine, Melissa, Charlie and Matthew will miss their grandpa dearly. He also had one great-grandchild, James. Charlie is survived by his sister, Antoinette Palladino, and eight nieces and nephews and their spouses. The family will receive friends at Schmidt Funeral Home, 1344 West Grand Parkway South, Katy, Texas 77494 between the hours of 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, June 18, 2019. Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at St. Faustina Catholic Church, 28102 FM 1093, Fulshear, Texas 77441.
