Juliana Navarrete
Juliana Navarrete, 46 Dearest wife and mother, 'truly lived the Amerian Dream' Juliana Navarrete, 46, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, June 9, 2019 at 4:40 am in the comfort of her own home, just as she wished. Born Dec. 16, 1973 in Cali, Colombia, she was raised by her two loving parents, Julio and Leonor Navarrete, and grew up with her two siblings, Julio Jr. and Jenni Navarrete. She would eventually meet and fall in love with her future husband, Jorge M. Velez, whom she married on April 25, 1998, and remained devotedly and happily married for the remainder of her life. She gave birth to Mateo and Nicolas Velez in Colombia on Sept. 24, 1998, and then to Thomas Velez on Nov. 4, 2004, after moving to Staten Island, New York, all of whom she loved and cared for dearly. She was a caring niece and also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins who cared for her. This is also not to mention her two adorable dogs, Cookie and Echo, who loyally stood by her side during her last moments. Juliana always put those she loved first. She moved to the United States in the early 2000s after seeing the vast opportunities the country had to offer to her family, and falling in love with the country's overall awe. She worked tirelessly and endlessly with her husband to gain citizenship status for herself and the rest of her family. She succeeded in being granted citizenship in 2012, and lived to see her whole family become citizens as well by 2018. She would also re-validate her college degree, and obtain a master's degree in Psychology at the College of Staten Island. She truly lived the "American Dream." Juliana was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, but was able to beat it through the support of her family, friends, and own will power. However, after her miraculous recovery and being cancer free for three years, she was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo its hardships once again. Nonetheless, despite its trials and tribulations, Juliana remained a very optimistic person, and continued to see the beauty in life through it all. For instance, she enjoyed baking cakes, adored tulips, loved doing yoga, and wanted to travel around the world even through her sickness. Her vibrant personality and strong determination drove her to continue her line of work at the company Los Ninos Kids, where she was a service coordinator who assisted numerous families through early intervention programs. She was kind as she was tough, loving as she was disciplined, and most importantly beloved by many. Juliana's funeral services will be held at Scarpaci Funeral Home at Staten Island, N.Y. 6389 Amboy Road, on Thursday, June 13, 2019 between 4 and 8 p.m. Scarpaci Funeral Home 6389 Amboy Road Staten Island, N.Y. 10309 (718) 966-7800
