Stanley J. Abbott
Abbott, Stanley J. Stanley Johnson Abbott, aged 85, of Grand Rapids passed away Monday May 13, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and George Abbott, brother Dale Murden and sister Grace Brown. He was married for 53 years to Celestine "Sally" F. Abbott (nee Lake) until her death in 2007. He is survived by his younger brother George William "Bill" Abbott; daughter, Cynthia Abbott and her husband Bob Erlenbusch; son, Craig (Dawn) Abbott; grandchildren Ian and Emma Abbott. Stanley grew up in Lansing, Michigan and attended Potterville High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean war. He retired from his work as an equipment installer for Western Electric and then worked part-time at Baker Book House. Stan was also very proud of the volunteer work he contributed to Our Daily Bread Ministries. He was a longtime member of the Open Bible Church and served many roles there, his favorite as librarian. He was a world traveler, avid photographer, fisherman, hiker and above all, a helper to those in need. A memorial service will be held Friday June 7, 2019 at 2:00pm in the Community House Auditorium behind Beacon Hill at Eastgate, 1919 Boston Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beacon Hill Foundation or to Faith Hospice.
