Melvin Bittner
Melvin John Bittner Evansville, Ind. Melvin John Bittner, 89, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Linda E. White Hospice House. Melvin was born in Evansville, Indiana on February 1, 1930, to the late Edward and Rosa (Reinhart) Bittner. He honorably served in the United States Air Force. He worked at Chrysler and, after many years of service, retired from Whirlpool. Melvin was a member of the American Legion, VFW and lifetime member of St. James Catholic Church. Melvin is survived by his daughters, Vicki Boerner (Ronald) of Darmstadt, IN, Cindy Mahan of Kingston, NY, Jeanne Pace (Tracy) of Wadesville, IN and Angela Nichols (Dave) of Byron, GA; sons, Curtis Bittner (Shirley) of Cabazon, CA, Gary Bittner (Micki) of Point Of Rocks, MD and George Bittner (Lonna) of Darmstadt, IN; brothers, James Bittner (Beverly), Chester Bittner (Earlene) and Edward Bittner (Linda) all of Evansville, IN; daughter-in-law, Cindy Bittner of Bloomington, CA; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Ruth (Krietemeyer) Bittner; son, Lester Bittner; sisters, Mildred Schulteis, Elvera Godeke and Caroline Schoenbachler; brothers, Earl, Harold, Ralph and Francis Bittner; and his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at St. James Catholic Church, 12300 S. 50 W., Haubstadt, IN 47639 with Fr. Kenneth Betz celebrating. Burial will follow at St. James Catholic Church Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 and again from 10:30 AM until service time on Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Benedict, 802 E. 10th St., Ferdinand, IN 47532 or to Linda E. White Hospice House, 611 Harriet St., Evansville, IN 47710.
