Bernice Simborski
Bernice Simborski, 86, of Somers, CT beloved wife of the late Benjamin J. Simborski, Sr. passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 at her home with her family by her side. Born July 27, 1932 in Agawam, MA daughter of the late Michael and Julia (Backiel) Chmielewski. She grew up in Agawam before moving to Somers 52 years ago. Bernice graduated from Agawam High School, received her bachelor’s degree in Teaching from Westfield State Teachers College and received her master’s from Lady of the Elms in English. She began her career teaching in the elementary school in Agawam, MA before moving to Somers where she taught at Maybelle B. Avery Elementary School for a few years before retiring. Bernice enjoyed cooking, traveling, going to concerts, and fashion design. She was a member of the Somers Women’s Club. She is survived by a son, Benjamin J. Simborski, Jr. of Somers; two step-daughters, Joan Mulkern and her husband Michael of Houston, TX, Rosanne Smyle and her husband Michael of Stonington, CT; a brother, Michael Chmielewski and his wife Millie of Suffield, CT; two sisters, Wanda Kane of Westfield, MA, Helen Kisielewski of Agawam, MA; two step-grandsons, Matthew and Kevin Mulkern. She was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Walter Chmielewski. Her family will receive friends Friday, February 15, 2019 from 5-7 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.
