Kathleen M. Hitas
Kathleen ""Kathy"" Marie Hitas, 72, of Agawam, MA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 05, 2019. She was born in Springfield, MA on June 6, 1946, the daughter of Marie (Monty) Martin and the late John Martin.Kathy graduated in 1964 from Cathedral High School. She furthered her education andreceived her Bachelor's Degree from Elms College in 1968 and went on to receive her Master'sDegree from AIC. She worked as a teacher for the Springfield Public School system for 41 years before retiring 10 years ago. Kathy was a 20-year member of the Springfield Country Club and an active member of the Catholic Women's Club at St. John the Evangelist Church. She was proud of her Irish heritage, enjoyed shopping, and loved to vacation at the beach, especially Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Kathy's favorite activity was her Saturday morning coffee and shopping dates with daughter Ellyn. On June 23, 1973 she married Peter Hitas. She is survived by her husband Peter, daughter, Ellyn Hitas and her wife Lauren Moss of Enfield, CT; her grandson Jack Nicholas Hitas-Moss; her sister, Sallyanne Heneghan and husband Danny, her brotherin-laws Gerald Campion, Paul Hitas, and Andrew Hitas and sister-in-law Cheryl Hitas. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Campion and brother-in-law David Hitas. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 11th at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 833 Main St., Agawam, MA. Everyone is asked to meet DIRECTLY at the church. Burial will follow at the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. Agawam Funeral Home has care of arrangements. Donations in Kathy's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
