Violet C. "Vi" Sferes
WINDHAM - Violet "Vi" C. Sferes, 86, died on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at Maine Medical Center. Vi was born in Bangor, the daughter of the late Oliver Benjamin and Hazel Violet (Mason) Colson. Vi grew up in Levant and Bangor, attended local schools, and graduated from Bangor High School the Class of 1950. After high school, Vi attended the School of Nursing at the University of Maine, as well as studying at Maine General Hospital, now known as Maine Medical Center. She completed her 3 year diploma program in nursing. Vi worked at Maine Medical Center for over 20 years in the Special Care Nursery. Vi had many passions in her life. The absolute first was her love of family. She was an incredible seamstress and derived much pleasure in making clothes, quilts, stuffed animals and crafts for all of them. She was also an avid gardener and lover of the outdoors and nature. As a young family, life was filled with annual camping trips, along with her parents (Nana & OB). This love of family and the outdoors evolved to spending many years at the camp (built by John and OB) on Raymond Pond. She also had a talent and love of painting animals and nature. In addition to her family, Vi absolutely adored her many dogs over the years, Roxie, Smokey, Misty, Shadow and Angel. She had a love of bird watching and reading. Vi is survived by her husband of 64 years, John; her daughter Cheryl S. Conroy and her husband Jamie of South Portland, her son Anthony "Tony" Sferes and his wife Sumida of Windham, and her daughter Diane S. Morissette of Norway. She is also survived by her beloved ten grandchildren, Nicholas and fiancé Kristin, Christopher and wife Courtney, Benjamin, Emily and husband Alex, Nicole and husband Derrick, Kristina and husband Steve, Justin, Naomi, Timmy and wife Jess, and Mason; and six great-grandchildren, Kali, Owen, Logan, Brody, Oliver, and River. Visiting hours will be held from 10 - 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Funeral service will be held in the Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
